Practitioners helping
Australian SMEs adopt AI.

We are educators, advisors, and builders, not salespeople. Funded by the Australian Government to make AI practical and safe for small and medium businesses. Adopt support (the Information Line, 45-minute consult, and self-service tools) is free for eligible SMEs. Paid work includes the AI Audit ($1,000) and medical automation ($7k–$15k).

Our story

Why SMEC AI exists.

Most AI advice is built for enterprises. SMEC AI was established under the Australian Government's AI Adopt program to fill the gap for smaller businesses, the ones with real constraints, small teams, and no appetite for tools that don't stick. We work across four priority sectors: agriculture, clean energy, medical and MedTech, and enabling technologies.

The team is made up of practitioners who have implemented AI inside real businesses. The result is a program that skips the theory, a vetted shortlist, a practical roadmap, and hands-on support through implementation. Adopt support is free for eligible Australian businesses; the AI Audit ($1,000) and medical automation ($7k–$15k) are paid.

Our mission

Make AI adoption accessible to every eligible Australian SME.

We exist to close the gap between knowing AI could help your business and having it actually work inside your business. Adopt support is free for eligible SMEs; paid services are priced up front.

Our vision

An Australia where small businesses lead on AI, not follow.

Australian SMEs employ the majority of the country's workforce. When they adopt AI well, the benefits compound across the broader economy.

How we work

The principles behind the program.

We are not a consultancy that charges by the hour, a software company with tools to sell, or a research institution publishing reports. We are a funded program with one job: get AI working inside your business.

Practical over theoretical

Recommendations grounded in what works for a business of your size and budget, not what works in a whitepaper.

Sector-specific expertise

Each sector has its own tools, compliance requirements, and workflows. We know them. Generic advice doesn't cut it here.

No conflict of interest

We don't sell software or take referral fees. The shortlist we give you is vetted purely on fit.

Speed and simplicity

A short form or a quick call is all it takes to get started. No lengthy applications, no jargon.

Clear pricing

Government-funded Adopt support (the Information Line, 45-minute consult, and self-service tools) is free for eligible businesses. The AI Audit is $1,000. Medical automation is $7k–$15k.

Measurable outcomes

We measure success by what changes inside your business, not sessions delivered or reports filed.

The team behind SMEC AI.

SMEC AI is run by practitioners: advisors, engineers, and educators who have worked in AI and understand what it takes to implement technology inside a small or medium-sized business.
