Australian SMEs often ask whether to use government-funded AI Adopt support or pay a private AI consultancy. This page states what SMEC AI actually offers, and what it will not claim.
Who is eligible for Adopt support
SMEC AI's government-funded Adopt support is for Australian SMEs, typically with fewer than 200 staff and annual revenue below $50 million. Priority sectors are agriculture, clean energy, medical and med-tech, and enabling technologies. Other sectors are also considered. If you are not sure, call the Information Line or book a consult and ask.
What is free
For eligible SMEs, Adopt support is free: the AI Information Line, a 45-minute consultation, and self-service tools. There are no fees or subscriptions on those services.
What is paid
Some SMEC AI work is priced separately. The AI Audit is $1,000. Medical automation projects are $7k–$15k. Those are optional. They are not bundled into Adopt support and they are not hidden.
What SMEC AI will not do
SMEC AI will not guarantee jobs, take product kickbacks, or present itself as a generic “#1 AI consultant”. Recommendations are not paid placements. The Information Line and consults are not legal, financial, or tax advice.
